Who We Are

Peter S. Taylor

Peter is President of Peter Taylor & Associates. He has gained a wealth of practical knowledge from consulting with and assisting individuals to develop their skills in many organizations in the private and public sectors. The names of specific organizations can be found elsewhere on this site.

His business experience includes human resources management with General Motors of Canada Limited (Quebec), Husky Injection Molding Systems Inc. and C&C Yachts Limited. Peter then spent five years on the faculty of Durham College. In this capacity, he taught labour relations and human resources. While at Durham, he also worked as a consultant in the College’s management training division. Prior to establishing his consulting practice in 1984, Peter was President of Microplace Inc., a retail computer training company with twenty-four sites across Ontario.

Peter has an Honours Bachelor of Commerce and a Master of Human Resource Development. He was a Certified Human Resources Leader (CHRL) and past President of the Durham Chapter of the Human Resources Professionals Association of Ontario. Peter was also a Certified Training & Development Professional (CTDP) and a founding member and past Chair of the Durham Chapter of the Institute for Performance and Learning (IPL).

In his practice, Peter has travelled across Canada, the United States and Europe. He has also lead programs in Dubai, Kenya, Malaysia, Mexico, Romania, Russia, Singapore and Vietnam. Peter excels at producing content and encouraging processes that are relevant to clients. The meetings he leads are participative, thought provoking and informative. His consultations and coaching sessions are insightful and creative. The results of all three processes are practical.

Peter is married, father to three daughters and grandfather of seven. Among his hobbies are travelling, photography, biking, collecting Haida art and cross-country skiing.

His community activities include having been a founding member and past President of the O’Neill Community Ratepayers Association. He completed two 60 km Weekend to End Breast Cancer walks in Toronto and raised over $6,500. Recently, he and Mary participated in the Port Perry Pedals 30km bicycle ride to raise funds for a CT Scanner for Lakeridge Health’s facility in Port Perry. Their efforts contributed nearly $4,000 of the $40,000 raised!

Peter coordinated the efforts of members of the Canadian Society for Training and Development (now I4LP) to respond to Stephen Lewis’ challenge to use Canadian training skills to assist in rebuilding human capacity to address the HIV/AIDS crisis in Africa. As part of this initiative, he spent March 2009 as a volunteer in Kenya.

Peter serves as President of the Friends of Second Marsh, a charitable organization committed to encouraging the protection and appreciation of The Second Marsh in Oshawa. The Second Marsh is the largest remaining urban wetland in the Greater Toronto Area. He is also an ardent Canadian and the publisher of My Passion for Canada.

Peter was privileged to work as a volunteer during the incredible 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto. He was inspired by the courage he witnessed and the stories he heard from both competitors and their families. The Invictus Games were started by Prince Harry in 2014.
